SLIME BACK IN TIME

A 3D isometric puzzle platformer with a cartoonish charm, incorporating the themes of evolving landscapes, autonomous worlds and digital archaeology. The game's basic platformer gameplay is a homage to our original inspiration: monument valley. The visuals of the game are low polygonal and cartoonish to make the game welcoming, pleasant and cozy. The two unique gameplay mechanics are what give the game it's true identity and incorporate the themes of evolving landscapes and autonomous worlds respectively. We can see the two gameplay mechanics at play here, the world changing with time reveals a hidden artifact required to pass the level and in the other video we see the player using their remains,spawned at a point where they decided to "die", as a platform to get up a ledge . The world changing with time gives the game it's true challenge, in a fun and curiousity inducing way while keeping the player engaged with dynamic levels. The player being able to use their own remains gives the player freedom to choose how they solve the puzzle and also makes the game more accessible to players of a lower skill level. As for the plot,which incorporates digital archaeology, you play the role of a time traveling jelly that aims to collect and send ancient artifacts to the future for scientific research.

In a game where the environment takes center stage, level design became the most immediate challenge we faced which we solved with constant storyboarding, prototyping and playtesting the levels with plenty of outside input. Blender and  procedural generation were used for the dynamic environments. C# coroutines helped in managing the player, the scene and the UI elements seamlessly. The jelly's softbody physics were actually made with the help of 6 bones at the faces of the cube connected to the center with spring joints, emulating gelatin .

Slime back in time is a game that doesn't aim to punish you for dying, it materialises your past efforts to make your next one easier while taking you along for a fun adventure.
